Nose_Spotlight_WebMandy and I now have two entries in the Aniboom Sesame Street contest!  "Inspector Nose, Private Eye Listens" has debuted at # 129, out of, about, 130! :>)   The contest hasn't started yet, but when it does...we'll need your views!

Update!: by 10:30 tonight, we'd made it up to #9!  We're creeping back down again, but the ride's been exciting!

Lonely Eleven

Eleven_FishingAniboom is having another contest, this time for Sesame Street!  So the lovely Mandy Heck and I have teamed up to make a series (hopefully) of animations to enter.  So far, we have completed "Lonely Eleven" which can be viewed on my animations page OR can be watched and rated on when voting begins in late April (I'll let everyone know when the time comes to vote, don't you worry!)

Snow news is...good news?

run_forweb_01As the snow falls outside and while I wait to hear on a few pending projects (yes, even the P.F. film might still be in the works, although without the original production company)...I've been working on a new animation and also taking a class at SVA with Don Duga, who is wonderful.  It's been super fun as we've been working on paper and I've only animated using a tablet.  My "light table" is an old 18"X24" picture frame with an IKEA ceiling light mounted's certainly not pretty but so far Jason hasn't had the urge to build me a new one so I know it's passable :>)

Spent this last month working on an animation ("brood") that was rolling around in my brain for over a took the deadline for the NYFA grant applications to light a fire under my butt.  I'm not sure if I'm going to post it just yet or try to have a screening, but check back here  either way and an answer you shall have.

Putting the Tums in Autumn...

So after a crazy month of 190-mile road races and marathon art installs, I am back on track  working on my  animation.   The FOX contest ends in one more week, and currently "Beckner" has  page 4 status for most-viewed which isn't half bad.  Haven't heard from P.F. in a while, but as far as I know I'm supposed to start on his film this winter.  We shall see...Speaking of see...if you want to see the work Jason and I just installed in Princeton (where the above tiger now lives) go to "commercial murals" and head to the end of the slideshow.

Hop on Fox

Saturday, 20 June 2009 03:18
FOX is holding a contest amongst animators to see who might be the next addition to their animated family.  My friend Matt and I are working on our 4-minute "pilot" which we will be submitting by August...and then you- yes you, will get to vote on which short wins the prize(s)!  We are quite excited about this project, so don't be surprised if, even in the event of a loss, you see  more episodes appearing on

Twenty nine is the new eight?

nickelodeon_charactersWhen Nickelodeon contacted me a few weeks ago, suggesting I enter a character design contest, I thought it would be a fun and fairly simple task.  Oh, no.  Perhaps it's because I haven't been four in twenty five years, but I found myself entirely stumped as to what would appeal to a pre-K pipsqueak.  Add to that the fact that a quick Google search revealed any ideas I thought I had were either already shows or the shows I grew up watching.  After staring at a blank page for the better part of a night, I pulled myself out of the running.

One week after the deadline, Nickelodeon contacts me again, wondering where my submission might be.  Loathe to disappoint, I sat down once more, this time armed with a page of notes from a brainstorming session with my future sister-in-law, a  first grade teacher.  Here's what I cooked up...
